The Lutheran Women's Missionary League
(LWML or Lutheran Women in Mission) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions (taken from LWML website – lwml.org or lwmlcid.org). There are presently two LWML organizations at Redeemer: Dorcas Circle and Women of Redeemer. These two organizations are actively serving the mission ministries of Redeemer and the national LWML through their collection of “mites”.
Mite Ministry
The national LWML supports mission projects through its Mite Mission Grant Program. These projects are selected at the biannual national LWML conventions and total over $1,000,000. every two years. “Mites” which can be loose change, dollar bills or checks are collected at Redeemer on the 5th weekends of various months. Reminders and information about the various mission projects are often in the Sunday bulletin, Redeemer’s weekly online newsletter, and on the media screens before services. Individual Mite Boxes are available to collect individual offerings.
Collection dates for 2013 are March 30 & 31, June 29 & 30, September 28 & 29, December 28 & 29.
Dorcas Circle
Dorcas Circle meets in Miller Hall on the second Monday of each month, Sept. through May, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The October Garage Sale is a project of Dorcas Circle where proceeds are shared with students at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Dorcas members are also involved in sewing quilts for LUTHERAN World Relief on the 1st and 3rd Monday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in Miller Hall. Supplying baby quilts to Lutheran Social Services is also accepted with open arms. Dorcas members also host funeral dinners, assist with the “Angel Tree” at Christmas, serve Lenten and other meals, and participate in other projects for the congregation. Members support the National LWML through collection of Mite boxes at monthly meetings. All ladies of Redeemer are welcome to attend and help with the various service projects.
Women of Redeemer
Women of Redeemer's purpose is to encourage the women of Redeemer Lutheran Church and our guests: to grow in our love and knowledge of Jesus as Savior and Lord; to stimulate the use of our spiritual gifts and talents; to nurture friendships and to support the missions of our church and the Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) through Mite donations and LWML projects. Each year WOR sponsors a Women’s Conference reaching women through the Peoria and Central Illinois area. We also offer education grants to Redeemer members studying for full time church work. Meetings, events, and service projects are held during the year and all ladies of the church are invited to attend all activities. 2012-2013 Programs
