Two people from Redeemer (Steve & Kathy Holtman) first visited the Tanzania Lutheran church as part of a larger group from the LCMS mid-South District in April 2013. This team was able to witness to many people during their 10-day stay and more than 1100 people were baptized.
The Lutheran school at Mwadui impressed them as a great potential partner and good contacts were made with Pastor Nzelu, the school's headmaster and Eric Funke a teacher at the school with GLO. Eric's wife Linda is a social worker who is very involved there also. Redeemer decided to send $12,000 in January 2014 to put a roof on the school's fellowship hall. It is now named "Redeemer Lutheran Hall" and is used for worship, classes and meals.
A team of 4 people (Steve Holtman, Corey Storer, Pastor Joe Meyer and Aaron Meyer) visited in June 2014 and had the opportunity to baptize another 500+ people. Bishop Makala, leader of the SELVD, and his wife visited Redeemer in September 2014 and made a presentation during the Bible class hour. In January 2015 another $12,000 was sent to Tanzania, as well as gifts to buy eight cows to start a dairy herd for the school.
