Local Missions
Redeemer supports several Christian organizations which provide significant mercy ministries as well as proclaim that there is hope in Christ. We thank God for their good work and encourage one another to serve those for whom Christ died.
Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT)
LERT is made up of members of Redeemer who are trained in disaster response. Our volunteers are equipped to work in a variety of disaster outreach ministries, such as food and water distribution, sheltering, cleanup and debris removal, basic repair, and property protection. Specialized chainsaw training is also available to members of the team.
Our LERT team is self-supporting and self-sustaining, and all of our work and expenses are covered by our volunteers. No one who has been helped is ever charged a fee of any kind. Our LERT Team is truly “Mercy in Action.”
Appalachia
A group of men of all ages road trip to the heart of Appalachia, one week a year in late April, to be a blessing to a community of very special people! The week is spent constructing, securing, and restoring area homes and facilities, sharing our hope and faith in Jesus Christ and growing together in fellowship.
This trip is highlighted by the completion of challenging yet deeply rewarding work, witnessing the love of Christ to a community in need, and developing deep friendships!
One can truly see God’s love and witness the Holy Spirit moving in the beautiful hills of Appalachia!
International Missions
Peru
A Mission of Mercy is the overall theme of several missions sites situated across Lima, Peru.
Castillo Fuerte “Mighty Fortress” missions of mercy began to improve the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families of La Victoria, Chorrillos, and San Juan de Lurigancho. Tutoring is offered to improve reading, math and science. Daily Bible studies and catechism classes are provided by the LCMS staff.
In June of 2016, an English Camp was offered at the main house in San Borjas. Future opportunities exist to participate in short term mission trips. For more information visit www.mostministries.org.
Tanzania
Redeemer has partnered with a Lutheran school at Mwadui and 2014 was able to provide funds to put a roof on the school's fellowship hall, which is used for worship, classes, and meals. Visiting teams from Redeemer had the opportunity to baptize 500+ people, and in 2015 a gift of eight cows were given to the school to help them start a dairy herd.
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic Mission is an amazing example of God's work and the power of multiple organizations partnering together, focused on a common goal of establishing a Lutheran church body in the Dominican Republic (DR). The Dominican Republic (DR) serves as the regional hub for all the LCMS missionaries throughout Latin America. There are now several worship sites in the Dominican, a Concordia Lutheran School (K - 7), a preschool, and a new seminary. Redeemer members contribute by supporting individual children, and participating in health clinic and construction trips.
Sharing Christ Through Personal Missions
What is a Personal Mission Activity?
A member or members of Redeemer sharing their faith and love for Christ and serving the needs of others. This program replaces the Missions Board’s Projects with a Purpose and emphasizes both sharing Christ and serving.
Why is Personal Ministry important?
Jesus commanded each one of us as a believer in Christ to witness and share our faith. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations . . . .” Mathew 28:19. Jesus also called each one of us to serve our neighbor: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat . . . . I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:35-40.
Who should be involved?
Everyone. Do not think this is only the Church’s job, or someone else’s responsibility, or that you are not capable. As Jesus said: "for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Luke 12:12.
What are examples of Personal Mission Activities?
Examples of Personal Mission Activities are described in the brochure. Some are simple and do not require any outside funding such as preparing a meal for a friend or neighbor and telling them about Jesus or patiently listening to a person who is hurting and then asking if you can pray for him or her. Other Personal Mission Activities may require some funding such as for supplies for a service activity that also involves sharing a message about Christ or preparing care packages that include Christian materials such as a copy of the New Testament. The Missions Board may be able to help with this funding.
How do I get involved?
If no funding is needed – Just go, share, and serve. If funding is needed, download and fill out the application in this brochure, or fill out an online application below.
We encourage everyone to share their personal mission activities with the Missions Board so the Board can share them anonymously with the congregation to inspire others to spread God's word as we serve others. Also, please pray that the faith of our members and “neighbors” will be strengthened through these activities and that many new souls will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
